1 Killed In Florence TANK Bus Crash Saturday, 11.21.2009, 10:53am (GMT-4) Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky bus.
The crash happened at about 9 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Turfway Road and Dixie Highway in Florence in the far right lane, police said. Officers said the bus was parked at the time and that it was rear-ended by another vehicle. Investigators said the bus driver, Nicholas Dilbert, had his flashers on at the time. Detectives said the bus was struck by a 2003 Mitsubishi driven by Matthew Thomas, 21, of Alexandria. Thomas was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital of Florence via life line helicopter and pronounced dead on arrival. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Crash investigators said it doesn't appear that Thomas used any braking or evasive maneuvers to avoid the crash. Dilbert and the two passengers inside the bus are OK. Police are still trying to piece together why the crash happened. Dilbert worked for Insight Communications and it was reported while he was working he was shocked by electricity while doing his job but its not sure at this time if that had anything to do with the accident and why he never tried to break before hitting the bus. It was reported he called his Fiancé shortly after he was shocked and said he never felt good but it appears he never went to the hospital. The day before the accident he was visiting with his son and they noticed he was not himself and said he had a pale color. DailyNewInc.com
