Breastfeeding May Provide Long-Term Cardiovascular and Metabolic Benefits

Mothers who choose to breastfeed can significantly lower their
long-term risk of a dangerous cluster of heart disease risk factors
known as metabolic syndrome. The new findings come from a study
recently published in the online journal Diabetes.
Erica P. Gunderson, PhD, of Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Calif.,
and her colleagues, found that women who had not experienced
pregnancy-related diabetes

Senate OKs health care amendment on mammogram access

The Senate took another step forward in the health care debate
Thursday, casting its first votes on what is certain to be a long
series of politically charged amendments.
The chamber approved a
Democratic-sponsored amendment to provide women with low-cost
mammograms and other preventative tests, while rejecting a GOP proposal
to prevent government boards from influencing coverage of screening
tests for women.

Fate of Amanda Knox, former boyfriend now in the hands of Italian jury

American student Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele
Sollecito.

November, as employers trimmed the fewest jobs of any month since the
start of the recession, and the unemployment rate posted the biggest

New Afghan push takes aim at militants

More than 1,000 troops have started a big push against insurgents in
a militant stronghold of southern Afghanistan, the U.S. Marines said
Friday.
Around 900 American and British troops and more than 150
Afghan soldiers and police are working to clear militants from the Now
Zad Valley of northern Helmand province in an operation called Khareh
Cobra, or Cobra's Anger.

Filmmaker Polanski out of jail

Film director Roman Polanski has been released from custody in
Switzerland and placed under house arrest, Swiss justice authorities
said Friday.
Polanski was released "pending extradition" to the
United States, the Swiss Department of Justice and Police said in a
statement. Polanski faces a sex-offense charge from the 1970s that
involves a girl who was 13.

Jefferson letter found amid old Delaware documents

last month when she stumbled upon an unexpected treasure.

Allies use Obama's Afghan plan as rallying cry

it as a rallying cry against flagging support for the drawn-out
conflict.
But there were also warnings of caution, with other

-- and reports of condemnation and threats from the Taliban militants
the troop surge is aimed at defeating.
