North Korea slams report that it torpedoed South Korean ship

North Korea denied Thursday that it fired a torpedo that sank a South
Korean warship in March, killing 46 sailors.
South Korean
military officials on Thursday announced the results of an official
investigation into the sinking of the Cheonan, prompting North Korea to
accuse them of fabricating evidence.

Female suicide bombers blamed in Moscow subway attacks

Russian investigators combing two subway stations attacked by female
suicide bombers think Chechen rebels may have been behind the rush-hour
strike that killed dozens of people.
"Our preliminary assessment
is that this act of terror was committed by a terrorist group from the
North Caucasus region," said Alexander Bortnikov of the Federal Security
Service, in reference to the investigation at one of the blast sites.

TV presenter gets death sentence for sorcery

Amnesty International is calling on Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah to
stop the execution of a Lebanese man sentenced to death for "sorcery."
In a statement released Thursday, the international rights group
condemned the verdict and demanded the immediate release of Ali Hussain
Sibat, former host of a popular call-in show that aired on Sheherazade, a
Beirut based satellite TV channel. Amnesty International is calling on Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah to
stop the execution of a Lebanese man sentenced to death for "sorcery."

War in Iraq was 'right decision'

Britain's involvement in the invasion of Iraq "was the right
decision and it was for the right reasons," Prime Minister Gordon Brown
said Friday in his first response at an inquiry into country's role in
the March 2003 conflict.
Brown was answering a question from the
chairman of the inquiry, John Chilcot, about whether he thought taking
military action in March 2003 was the right decision, especially given
that it led to such a great loss of life among military personnel and
civilians.

Britain releases new UFO files

A hovering Toblerone and a silky-white residue join near-misses and
strange lights in the British government's latest release of its files
on UFO sightings.
Made public Thursday, the files are the fifth
collection of records about unidentified flying objects to be released
by the Ministry of Defence and The National Archives as part of a
project to open the files up to a wider audience.

Man goes undercover to combat child sex slavery

come back to see them every year since.
The California native

Iran to tell U.N.: Enrichment to start Tuesday

Iran will inform the U.N. nuclear watchdog that it will begin
enriching uranium to 20 percent on Tuesday, the country's atomic chief
said.
Iran's envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency,
Ali-Asghar Soltanieh, said his country handed over a letter to the
agency stating its intention, Press TV reported.

N. Korea says it is releasing U.S. citizen

North Korea said Friday it was releasing an American detained in
North Korea after reportedly illegally entering the country in
December, state-run media reported.
"The relevant organ of the
DPRK decided to leniently forgive and release him, taking his admission
and sincere repentance of his wrongdoings into consideration," KCNA
reported. The news agency earlier reported a lengthy account of what
were said to be Park's misunderstandings about the North and how they
had been proven wrong since crossing the border.

Detained Americans thought they met with Haitian police

Ten Americans accused of illegally trying to take children out of
Haiti met with people they thought were Haitian and Dominican
authorities the week before being stopped at the border, said
interpreters who worked with the group.
The Americans were
turned back Friday as they tried to take 33 children across the border
into the Dominican Republic. At least some of the group are members of
the Central Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho. They are being
held in a jail in Port-au-Prince.

In late April, WHO announced the emergence of a novel influenza A virus.
This particular H1N1 strain has not circulated previously in humans. The virus is entirely new.
The virus is contagious, spreading easily from one person to another, and from one country to another. As of today, nearly 30,000 confirmed cases have been reported in 74 countries.
This is only part of the picture. With few exceptions, countries with large numbers of cases are those with good surveillance and testing procedures in place.
