Elton Brand to be Philadelphia 76ers’ G League GM

The Philadelphia 76ers plan to hire Elton Brand as the general manager of their G League affiliate in Delaware, according to multiple reports.

Brand, a two-time All-Star, retired last October. He played five of his 17 NBA seasons with the Sixers, including his final season in 2015-16, when he played in 17 games.

He was a consultant for the Sixers last season, focusing on player development.

The Vertical first reported the news of the Sixers’ plans.

Brand averaged 15.9 points and 8.5 rebounds in 1,058 games with the Bulls, Clippers, Mavericks, Hawks and Sixers.

Brand’s first four seasons with the Sixers came after he spurned better offers to sign an $82 million, five-year free-agent contract in 2008 with Philadelphia. The Sixers waived him in 2012.

The Chicago Bulls selected the Duke standout with the No. 1 pick of the 1999 NBA draft. Brand shared Rookie of the Year honors with Steve Francis for the 1999-2000 season.
